Return trip for Justin Fields
Now that he’s an uncommitted recruit, 5-star quarterback Justin Fields isn’t shy about visiting college campuses.
The former Penn State commit from Harrison High School (Kennesaw, Ga.) visited Georgia on Monday, Auburn on Tuesday and will spend Wednesday at Florida State.
Those trips beg the question: When will Florida get the hottest name in recruiting on campus? Well, it’s already happened.
Fields and multiple family members, including his mother, visited UF on May 6. SEC Country learned of the trip by spotting him on campus that day. Here’s a photo of the golf carts that escorted him and his family around campus. Photo taken by SEC Country’s Zach Abolverdi. At the time, Fields did not want the trip publicized because of his Penn State pledge. With his recruitment now open, he is visiting schools openly.
Fields competes this weekend in the NFA7v7 National Championship at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. After the tournament concludes, he plans to visit Florida on his way back to the Peach State.
Gators coach Jim McElwain, offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier and other assistants have been recruiting Fields since January. He recently told SEC Country that five UF coaches text him every day.
Between that communication, his May visit and the scheduled trip next week, the Gators have put themselves in a good spot. Most viewed Florida as the favorite for Fields following his de-commitment from Penn State on June 6.
However, he also took secret trips to Auburn and Georgia while committed to the Nittany Lions and publicly visited Florida State on April 9. All four schools have a shot, and his latest round of visits this month could determine where he lands.
Fields hopes to decide before his season starts. He is ranked the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback and No. 3 overall prospects in the 247Sports Composite.
