Benjamin Wolk/SEC Country 4-star cornerback C.J. Henderson. GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida coaching staff returned to the recruiting trail this week with the contact period back in full swing.
The Gators currently have 14 verbal commitments and are looking to add at least eight more prospects to the Class of 2017.
Here’s a look at who might be next to commit: 4-star CB C.J. Henderson , Miami
The Gators want to sign a deep defensive back class this year, and Henderson is one of their top targets. He made an early commitment to Miami back in February, but backed off his pledge on Oct. 3 a couple weeks after a visit to Florida. The Gators have been the team to beat since, and he made another UF trip just days after his de-commitment.
Henderson has taken official visits to Auburn and Tennessee with upcoming trips to Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The Under Armour All-American is still considering Miami as well, but the Gators are the overwhelming favorite to land him and will be tough to overcome. He is ranked the nation’s No. 15 cornerback and No. 132 overall prospect. 4-star cornerback C.J. Henderson. (Zach Abolverdi/SEC Country) Donaldson came on Florida’s radar last summer when he attended Friday Night Lights. He’s been a Miami pledge since the summer of 2015 and has visited the school 10 times. However, he committed to the previous staff and is considering other schools because of the coaching change. At this time, UF is considered the biggest threat because of its offensive line needs and his relationship with area recruiter Randy Shannon.
Florida hosted Donaldson on his first official visit for the South Carolina game and the Gators set the bar high. His mother, Evaughn Person, gave the trip high remarks . The Under Armour All-American visited Mississippi State the following week, Florida State last weekend and will head to North Carolina on Friday. He’ll make a final decision after visiting Miami on Dec. 9. Donaldson is ranked the nation’s No. 12 offensive tackle and No. 71 overall prospect. 4-star offensive tackle Navaughn Donaldson. (Student Sports) 3-star DT Tyrone Truesdell , Augusta, Ga.
Defensive tackle is one of the Gators’ biggest needs, and now they’re desperate following the recent de-commitments of Fred Hansard and Jordon Scott. UF has just one pledge at the position, junior college transfer Javier Edwards. Truesdell is Florida’s best bet to add a prep prospect to the class.
He named the Gators his leader after his visit for the Kentucky game and still maintains they’re his favorite. Truesdell has official visits set to Kentucky (Dec. 10), Louisville (Jan. 13), Florida (Jan. 20) and Ole Miss (Jan. 27). Even with these trips scheduled, sources close to Truesdell have told SEC Country it’s only a matter of time before he joins the Gators’ class. The UF staff is also expected to pursue him even harder now following the loss of Hansard. 3-star defensive tackle Tyrone Truesdell.
