The Florida Gators football team received a verbal commit from Zachary Carter. Carter gave an update on his intentions via his official Twitter account.
The Florida Gators suffered a significant setback when four-star defensive tackle Fred Hansard spurned Jim McElwain for the Penn State Nittany Lions. It wasn’t exactly the end of days, but it was a disappointing turn of events.
The Gators could be getting some good news from another commit in four-star defensive end Zachary L. Carter.
Carter is one of the most highly-touted recruits in McElwain’s 2017 recruiting class. He still has to sign his letter of intent, but Gators fans have been optimistic that he’ll remain true to his word and call Gainesville home.
In a recent post to his official Twitter account, Carter announced that he has a surprise coming—a tweet that included a gator emoji.
Unfortunately, we won’t know what that officially means until National Signing Day.
If, “Coming soon,” indeed means National Signing Day, then the Gators will need to wait until Wednesday, February 1.
Carter is a four-star recruit across the board and the No. 133 overall recruit on ESPN . He’s rising up the board on the Rivals 150 and is currently the No. 4 defensive end and No. 88 overall recruit in the class of 2017.
Carter is the No. 131 recruit on Scout and is No. 133 overall and No. 5 amongst strong side defensive ends on 247Sports . With Florida losing players to the NFL and graduation, adding a player of Carter’s caliber would be a massive get for McElwain and the Gators.
Carter is a 6’5″ and 250-pound athlete who ran a 4.90 40-yard dash. His physical presence is tantalizing enough for the Gators to be one of many teams interested in exploring Carter’s potential.
If Carter agrees to sign his letter of intent with the Gators come February, Florida’s defense could maintain its long-term dominance.
Here’s hoping the gator emoji is a sign of things to come.
