The Detroit Lions loaded up on Florida Gators in the 2017 NFL Draft, selecting LB Jarrad Davis and CB Teez Tabor in the first two rounds.
If early performances are to be believed, it looks like the Lions made the right calls, as both Davis and Tabor have drawn rave reviews from coaches and observers.
According to DetroitLions.com beat writer Tim Twentyman , Davis has already taken control of the defense and is showing his leadership abilities in OTAs: “Slotted right into the MIKE and didn’t look out of place at all,” Twentyman wrote of the former Gator. “He’s calling the defense, and his speed and coverage ability look to be an early upgrade at the position.” Tabor, on the other hand, is working his way back from a hamstring injury, but Twentyman said the ex-Gator star has put the pre-draft concerns about his speed to rest: “He looked to be full go in the final open practice after being eased back in (hamstring) the first couple weeks. The first thing that jumps out about Tabor is his size. He’s very well put together. He made a nice interception on Matthew Stafford last week, and speed hasn’t appeared to be an issue with him so far.” It’s still early, but it sounds like the Lions are happy with their rookie defenders. Florida fans could see a lot of the former Gators on Sundays this fall.
