The Florida Gators find themselves right back where they were a year ago, limping into the SEC Championship Game against No. 1 Alabama with a broken offense and coming off a deflating one-sided loss to arch-rival Florida State.

Who: No. 1 Alabama (12-0) vs. No. 15 Florida (8-3)

When: 4 p.m. Dec. 3

Where: Georgia Dome, Atlanta

Radio: 103.7-FM, AM-850

The only difference might be that Florida likely will be given even less of a chance of staying on the field with the mighty Tide this year than last.

But the Gators are going to have a plan to win and will to take their best shot, UF coach Jim McElwain said Sunday.

“I know this, as hurt as we were with last night’s outcome, the excitement and anticipation of what we’re going to do this week and what we’re about to face, our guys are looking forward to it,” McElwain said. “Getting to Atlanta isn’t easy. The next step is going and knocking down that door. That’s going to be our mindset.

“There are no gimmies in this league. You’ve got to truly earn getting there. That’s what makes it so satisfying, now getting back again. We’ve got some guys who have gotten their feet wet there. Now, it’s time to go jump into the deep end of the pool, and our guys are looking forward to it.”

The 31-13 loss to the Seminoles is a tough one to take into Saturday’s championship game.

But McElwain said Saturday’s bad experience in Tallahassee isn’t going to linger. He said the Gators started moving on after they got off the team bus in Gainesville at around 3:45 a.m. Sunday.“It’s something we actually talked about,” he said. “I gave them until 3:45 in the morning, which is when we unloaded the bus, to think about it. And then erase it. Learn from it and come back in realizing there’s a whole bunch of people who wish they were playing on this championship weekend.
