Freeman has an impressive swimming resume and still has over a year before he’ll make the move to Gainesville. This summer he represented the United States at Junior Pan Pacs after competing at Olympic Trials. He is a National Junior Team member. In November Freeman set the National Independent High School record in the 200m freestyle. He is the 2016 Tennessee High School State Champion in the 200 and 500 freestyle. He was also on Baylor’s winning 200 freestyle relay, with his 19.99 anchor split.
Freeman said, “The team the coaches have put together at the University of Florida is amazing. UF has the best combination of coaching, team, resources and philosophy for the swimming goals I have set for myself. The coaches and team will push me every day in practice and the school will push me in the classroom. I am really excited to take on these challenges. Go Gators!” Freeman will be a great addition to the Gators. With over two years until his first NCAA Championships he is already only seven seconds shy of what it took to score in the mile at last year’s meet . His best 500 freestyle time would have made him a B finalist at the meet. Senior Pawel Werner was Florida’s only scorer in the event last year.
