Dominick Hill, Orlando Jones High, 2020 Orlando Jones High freshman athlete Dominick Hill was overjoyed at learning Thursday he had his first college football scholarship offer from the Florida Gators .
He learned the news during track practice from Jones coaches and was somewhat out of breath when one of they told him.
“I was smiling so hard it was like my cheeks were going to fall off my face,” said Hill, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound versatile athlete who plays both safety and receiver. “I was so happy. I didn’t even see it coming. I couldn’t believe it.”
Hill was not the only one who got emotional about the news. He said his mother Millie Tolbert broke down in tears when he told her.
“It’s just me an my mom and my brothers. She was very happy because we’re in like a sad predicament because she’s the only parent for me, so she was so very proud that I was able to be able to grab my first offer from an SEC school.”
Florida, which also offered Hill’s teammate CB Sevyn Banks on Thursday, is the same school that Jones head coach Elijah Williams attended before he went on to star in the NFL.
“I’m just thankful for my head coach, Coach Will and the rest of the coaching staff for being there for me,” said Hill. “I was very excited that I received an offer from the same school that my coach played at.”
