Kayli Kvistad’s two-run, no-doubter over the right-field fence in the third inning broke a scoreless tie and Chelsea Herndon provided some insurance with a pinch-hit, solo shot to right-center in the sixth as UF won its eighth straight game to improve to 37-2 overall and remain atop the Southeastern Conference standings at 13-1.

The Bulldogs fell to 27-13, 2-10 and lost their ninth straight SEC contest after opening the season by taking two of three from Kentucky.

“I was really feeling good tonight,” said Barnhill, who stuck out 14 Georgia hitters to improve to 15-0 on the season.

“I was able to move my rise ball on all three planes, and when I’m able to do that, it’s always a good game.”

The game was scoreless entering UF’s third inning, which began innocently enough with back-to-back ground outs. But Nicole DeWitt was hit by a pitch by Georgia starter and loser Brittany Gray (17-8) and Kvistad followed by blasting the second pitch she saw well out of the park for her fifth home run of the season and a 2-0 UF lead.“We just did a really good job as a team coming together,” Kvistad said. “It was just the right pitch at the right time.”“How about Kayli Kvistad?” UF coach Tim Walton said. “She hit that ball well. That was obviously a big moment in the game.” Unfortunately, this article is either no longer in our system or is in a different location. To find additional or related content, you can check out latest articles or use our site search function above.Thank you.
