A Florida student was tackled and arrested after stealing more than $1,000 from the Hare Krishna lunch line on campus Thursday.
Anthony Davila Stirling, a junior, has been charged with theft and wearing a mask in public as a result of the incident.
Davila Stirling, though, didn’t make it far with the money – which was in a box – before he was stopped by three Florida students , including one who tackled him. The other two students helped hold Davila Stirling down until police could arrive.
The incident occurred on the Plaza of the Americas around 1 p.m. He was booked into the Alachua (Fla.) County Jail at 3:27 p.m., according to jail records .
Hare Krishnas have been a mainstay serving lunch on the Florida campus for years.
The Florida Gators community has examples in the past of students stopping crimes in action. Last July, walk-on linebacker Cristian Garcia thwarted an attempted sexual assault and then received the “It’s On Us” Courage Award as a result of it.
Maybe the student who made the tackle here could become a walk-on, too?
