The 4-star tight end from Warminster, Pa., is ready to make his pledge this month. Pitts initially planned to announce on July 4, but has pushed back that date so he can have a commitment video made.
“It will come out around mid-July,” Pitts told SEC Country.
His finalists are Florida, Georgia and Virginia Tech. Pitts visited Gainesville on June 10 and that trip made the Gators a serious contender.
“It was really good,” Pitts said of the visit. “I got to spend a lot of time with (running backs) Coach (Ja’Juan) Seider, (tight ends) Coach (Greg) Nord and a couple players. I like all those guys. Just a great family atmosphere down there.”
Pitts said his relationship with the coaches would be the reason he commits to Florida and he looked forward to meeting Seider, Nord and other staff members on his trip.
“That was really important,” Pitts said. “I just wanted to make sure all the people I talk to on the phone are like that in person, and they are. So they met my expectations.”
The 6-foot-6, 235-pound Pitts is ranked the nation’s No. 13 tight end and No. 268 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite. Despite his readiness to commit, Pitts still hasn’t decided on a school.
“I don’t know where I’m going yet,” he said. “Just need to talk it over with my family and see how they feel.”
