Gators forward Devin Robinson, left, is leaving his name in the NBA draft and will forego his senior year at the University of Florida. UF’s Robinson to forgo senior season, stay in NBA draft
Florida junior forward Devin Robinson announced on social media Friday that he intends to keep his name in the NBA draft and will hire an agent.
“The decision was not easy for me, in fact, it was one of the hardest decisions I have faced,” Robinson wrote in a letter penned to Gator Nation on Friday. “I will be leaving a place that’s become my second home.”
The 6-foot-8, 200-pound Robinson averaged 11.1 points and 6.1 rebounds, helping lead UF to its ninth Elite Eight appearance in school history in 2016-17. Robinson is projected as high as an early second-round selection on some NBA mock draft websites.
“We’ll miss Devin here, but he’ll always be a part of the Gator family,” Florida coach Mike White said. “We’re excited for Devin as he continues to pursue his dream and grateful for his role in helping reestablish the culture and success of the Florida basketball program.“
Florida is still awaiting whether junior center John Egbunu will keep his name in the NBA draft or return for his senior season. The 6-foot-11 Egbunu, who underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in March, has until May 24 to decide.
